Promote Your Program!

Don't Expect Others To Promote it for you!

Hello Everyone!

Here I am again 🙂

While it may be rather obvious to many program owners that they need to promote their program or service in order to get more business, sometimes I wonder if it's as obvious as it should be.

You would think that program owners - especially TE and Safelist owners would without a doubt get their sites out there. I have met quite a number of program owners over the years, but I hardly ever (if at all) see some of them advertising their programs. This is a mystery to me as some of those owners are not "new" to the industry. Don't Expect Others To Promote Your Program! Sure, you may have an affiliate offer and everything, but that does not always equal people tripping all over themselves to promote your program. It simply doesn't happen as much as folks might think.

People often complain about seeing loads of Traffic Exchanges and Safelist/Mailers advertised in other TEs and Mailers. I don't see a problem with that. At least the programs are being advertised. If others have such a problem with it then they need to start flooding the TEs and Mailers with THEIR promotions that are NOT TEs or Mailers.

Advertising works. Period. TE advertising works. Safelist/Mailer advertising works. Banner advertising works. Text ad advertising works. The list goes on and on. Some may work better than others. The same people might have a different degree of success with the same type of advertising vehicle. That is simply the way it is. There are many variables that contribute to a successful advertising campaign. If Traffic Exchange advertising doesn't work for you, that does not mean that Traffic Exchange advertising doesn't work. It simply means it doesn't work for YOU. Maybe you need to adjust your promotions, or simply try a different medium. Don't go raining on someone else's parade by saying 'Traffic Exchange advertising (for example) doesn't work' and other silly blah blah blah.

Some may wonder why such a blog post is necessary. Well, what may be obvious to many may not be obvious to all. Also, we could all use a reminder from time-to-time about things we already know about. Plus there are also new people that come into the industry every day. We need to show them a good example 🙂

So remember, although it is cool to have affiliates that also promote your site, YOU need to be doing it as well!!

Thanks for reading my blah blah blah.

Please leave your comments – that is what makes the whole “system” work.

Till next time!
Yours in Success,

  • Hi John,
I agree: if it doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean it won’t work for someone else. You need to tailor your advertising to your market. Marketing to TE’s is different that marketing to mailers. Using the same ads for both might not work.
Also advertising is about making adjustments, tweaking and fiddling until it works. It could just be changing the heading or changing where the heading is.

  • I thought it’s obvious that one has to promote one’s own program. I agree with what you said, sometimes people need a reminder. Hope many read your blog!

  • Many owner, especially the newest, think that “viral” means the site will be promoted automatically or will be promoted by others.
The owner must to be the first person who promote the site, testing different pages,…

  • I have a nice little network of advertising sites and none have affiliate programs any more. I promote them all and spend a sizable ad budget doing so and they are still growing as they was. I have been keeping a check on what owners have been spending money on advertising with me and who hasn’t and the ones that have seem to be the ones growing faster. Im pretty sure that is because if they are spending with me then they are spending with others too. Those that think you can get big without spending anything seem to be in dreamland. Those that reply on others promoting then pay coms to them, well think about if you spent the same amount as you paid out in coms you probably would end up with the same if not better results. Speculate to accumulate, invest in YOUR business.

    • Hello Steve.
      Outstanding comment!
People really do need to get past this “do everything for free and make money” attitude. It’s simply not logical.

Thanks so much for your comment!

  • “If Traffic Exchange advertising doesn’t work for you, that does not mean that Traffic Exchange advertising doesn’t work” WOW what a statement and there are so many that do blame the traffic exchange. “So remember, although it is cool to have affiliates that also promote your site, YOU need to be doing it as well!!” and I have to agree with you as I’m all over the place earning advertising and there are sites that I never see some advertising either – Great Post John

    • Hey Nancy 🙂

      Glad you liked the post.

Yes, folks need to realize that it takes EFFORT (and a bit of cash – lol) to achieve true success in this industry.

      Thanks for your comment!
